This is an exciting opportunity in Minnesota for a Controls Technician.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

Controls technician performs a series of mechanical and electrical connections to maintain, improve and troubleshoot test and control systems correctly by following equipment manuals by utilizing manufacturing software. The function supports all manufacturing systems.

  • Inspects, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical, instrumentation, test and control equipment and software.

  • Supports IT hardware equipment errors such as scanners, printers, labels, clients, screens, network connectivity, etc. Liaison with IT support personnel and follow instructions provided by Level1 or Level2 support.

  • Troubleshooting to diagnose and identify operational issues. Write troubleshooting guides with step by step instructions.

  • Supports routine maintenance, facilitates customizations, and changes to IT and Controls related systems.

  • Supports technology setup, including computer setup and system access.

  • Point of contact for the operators manufacturing systems related system issues. Escalate issues as required.

  • Support and provide refresher training for actions such as system access, manufacturing systems functionality, system device operation (HMI), Torque Tooling and other operational processes.

  • Participates actively in the identification of ways in which to improve quality, safety, process, and material flow.

  • Workplace safety and environmental policies and procedures by wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE), keeping work area safe and clean using 5S (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, Sustain), completing annual safety training, and reporting any risks or hazards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED. 2 years certificate from college or technical school in electronics or related discipline.

  • 1-2 years’ experience in manufacturing environment with at least one year being assembly-related.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to maintain good working relationships.

  • Preferred experience in Linux System and programming.

  • Familiarity with current National Electrical Code (NEC). Understanding of Arc Flash Hazard.

  • Strong fundamental understanding of 3 phase electrical systems, machine/motion control systems, electro-mechanical systems, VFD and Servo programming, communication protocols, and practical application.

  • Ability to read & understand blueprints/schematics required.

  • Understanding of high potential testing & continuity systems. Low voltage wiring.

  • Ability to troubleshoot & repair manufacturing equipment; to include PLC’s, HMI’s, VFD’s, motors (AC/DC), driver (AC/DC), servo drives and motors, hydraulic, mechanical, torque control systems & pneumatic systems.

  • Hands on experience with PLC Hardware: MicroLogix 1500, CompactLogix, ControlLogix and SLC 500 systems, Remote I/O system & operator interfaces and can troubleshoot those systems.

  • Experience in A-B Panel-View, Panel-View , Factory Talk SE, ME, and Studio software.

  • Properly addressing TCP/IP networks and RS-232/485 communications.

  • Understanding of OPC protocol. Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems.

  • Install applications software on control systems equipment.

  • Strong prioritization skills to manage workload and maximize productivity.

  • Decision Making/Problem Solving- Acts to solve problems while exhibiting good judgment and a realistic understanding of issues using reason.

  • Teamwork- Collaborates toward solutions that benefit all involved parties and accomplish group objectives.

  • Flexibility- Performs a wide variety of tasks and changes focus quickly as demands change, adapts to varying customer needs.

Compensation and Benefits

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience.
